Crowns & Bridges
Crowns
A crown is used to “cap” a damaged tooth. It can also be used to improve the tooth’s appearance, shape or alignment. A crown can also be placed on top of an implant to provide a tooth-like shape and structure for function. Porcelain or ceramic are just a few of the various materials used for a crown. They can be matched to the colour of your teeth and look completely natural.
A crown may be recommended for the following treatment:
- Replace a large filling when there isn’t enough natural tooth remaining
- Protect a weak tooth from fracturing
- Restore a fractured tooth
- Attach a bridge
- Cover a dental implant
- Cover a tooth that has had root canal treatment
Bridges
Bridges are cemented to natural teeth or implants and span the space where teeth are missing. There are a few material options available for bridges. Materials are based on the location of the missing tooth (or teeth), its function, aesthetic and price. As with crowns, porcelain or ceramic bridges can be matched to the colour of your natural teeth.
